Client: Large BC-based national supply chain solutions & logistics provider, part of a multi-national company.
 
Opportunity: Our client identified the need for change in how they onboarded and trained their Shift Managers. They were experiencing administrative roadblocks and inconsistencies, pushback from Area Managers regarding what they felt was a rushed onboarding process, and a lack of structure in their current training processes, leading to stress and a trial-by-fire approach for new Shift Managers. Our client approached us wanting to create a comprehensive Onboarding and Training Program that would provide structure and set clear expectations for new Shift Managers, while also strengthening labour relations and leadership training.
 
Solution: Envol implemented a robust Training and Onboarding Program for Shift Managers at our client’s organization, involving 4 phases: Discovery Process, Project Planning, Program Design and Development, and the Program Pilot. Overall, the Training and Onboarding Program was carefully designed to establish clear and consistent guides to onboarding, from pre-boarding to ongoing support; establish structure, assign roles, and set clear expectations; and ensure consistency in practices amongst our client’s terminal locations. The Program also included several training materials and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) designed specifically for new Shift Managers at our client’s organization to ensure their success in their roles. 
 
Impact: The Training and Onboarding Program was immensely successful in creating a consistent and effective onboarding and training structure for our client’s terminal locations. The Program provides structure and guidance for new Shift Managers and their Area Managers. The Program Pilot that was tested has been well-received, with feedback including “Overall, it’s the most prepared we have been” and “It’s been great. The first three weeks have given me time to get to know the whole operation.” The Program Pilot has boosted onboarding effectiveness, increased positive impact on company objectives, and helped employees feel supported and satisfied in their roles.
