Case Study: DEI Strategy
Client: Large BC-based waterfront organization.
Opportunity: Our client approached us with several challenges regarding their DEI efforts. They were facing trouble making DEI progress beyond basic compliance; existing initiatives focused on meeting legal requirements but failed to create a truly inclusive workplace culture. Additionally, siloed DEI programs across departments led to inefficiencies, wasted resources, and a lack of overall strategy. Finally, the client struggled to connect their DEI efforts with their core business goals. This disconnect resulted in a lack of diverse talent acquisition, high turnover rates, and a generally disengaged workforce.
Solution: We partnered with our client to develop a comprehensive DEI strategy that seamlessly integrated into their existing operational processes. This approach ensured cost-effectiveness while addressing their essential business needs. The strategy prioritized key areas going beyond compliance to include communication, talent development, and Indigenous relations.
Impact: By integrating DEI into core operations, we helped our client achieve a significant positive impact across their organization. To ensure continued compliance while also elevating their approach to DEI, Envol created an Accessibility Communications Guide and a Leadership Development Program designed to equip frontline leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage a diverse work environment and ensure safety and productivity. Additionally, introducing communications-related solutions such as an Internal Communications Plan helped ensure our client’s leaders and managers could effectively articulate the organization’s DEI progress and commitments, ultimately fostering a culture of trust and understanding. Talent development solutions, including elevating our client’s existing Recognition Program and Onboarding Program, coupled with the implementation of an Inclusive Hiring Recruitment Strategy and DEI Training resulted in a more skilled and engaged workforce, with improved retention rates and increased representation in key roles. Lastly, developing and launching an Indigenous Relations Strategy continues to empower our client’s team with the knowledge and understanding required to create meaningful partnerships and relations with local Indigenous communities.
