Now that you’ve met some of our tried and true team members, let’s take a turn and introduce some of our newbies, starting with Angus Begg! Angus joined us this summer as a Marketing Intern, but don’t let the title fool you – he’s a huge contributor to our group! Besides being a genuinely rad person, Angus is hardworking, talented, and passionate.
Q: What’s your story?
A: Now this is story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down. And I’d like to take a minute just sit right there I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air – Wait no that’s not right.
I grew up in East Vancouver, but currently reside in Kits. Regardless of where I am, East Van will always be my home. After the summer, I’ll be going into my last term of my at UBC’s Sauder School of Business.
Funnily enough, my Sauder specialization is in finance, but I’ve quickly realized that some aspects of the finance industry are not for me! Marketing and branding have always been of interest to me, so I’m excited to pursue opportunities that align with that path instead.
Q: What’s your favourite thing about working at Envol?
A: I imagine the best part for everyone here is being able to do meaningful and impactful work, while growing as individuals. I wholeheartedly agree, but I just have to add that my favourite part about the work environment is the flexible work hours and the appreciation for employee wellness! (Note: we had donuts for National Donut Day – I’m using the word wellness loosely in this case).
Q: What makes you you?
A: I’ve got a strong drive to learn. I constantly want to better myself, which has pushed me to try out a lot of new things over the past few years. I just finished a semester abroad in Barcelona where I was able reflect and gain invaluable experience. That experience really opened my eyes to the world. I can confidently say that I want to be exploring all the time!
Also Coffee. Without it I am a shell of a human.
Q: What do you do when you’re not busy at work?
A: Outside of work, I dabble into my fair share of food and wine. Cooking has always been a huge part of my life, even when I was young, and it never fails to put me into a good mood. Wine is something I’ve recently gotten into, and I’m currently working to get my knowledge up to speed to take a WSET level 2 course! Wine brings together so many passions of mine – food, history, exploration, marketing, and culture! Because of this love for all things carb, sugar, and fat-based I have to keep up by exercising via hikes, soccer, and the gym.
As part of my own professional development, I’m trying to learn to code and graphic design (albeit slowly, given the number of mistakes I make).
Q: What are you great at?
A: While I was in Italy I ate 7 pizzas over the course of 3 days. Work/life achievements are great, but can they really compare to that?
Q: Where’s your happy place?
A: Locally, any of the campsites around Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and Squamish. I love getting away for a few days to spend some quality relaxation time.
Abroad: Barcelona! It’s a magical city and I was lucky enough to live there for a while. Everything from the culture to the food to the art was inspiring to be around.
