At Envol, we LOVE to celebrate our achievements and say thank you – especially during our Monday meetings! It’s a great way to start off our week, especially now that we’re all working from home (and we hope you are too because of #COVID19). When working remotely, not everyone can see what we have done and celebrate our efforts. Therefore, we believe that it’s important to recognize our team’s hard work and dedication every single week!
The pandemic and working from home can put a toll on your employees’ mental health, but you can alleviate this stress by telling your employees how much you value them and their contribution to their job any day of the year. No special occasion necessary!
Here are five ways you can show your appreciation to your employees:
Whenever you see an employee perform admirably, thank them by praising them right away! Make sure your praise is sincere – a simple “Good job”, doesn’t always cut it. You want to emphasize what they did well and encourage them. This can be a positive feedback tool and lead them in the right direction. For example, “Katie, thank you so much for writing such detailed notes on candidate responses! This helps our clients have a better understanding of each candidate’s personality and how it aligns with their company’s culture.” Unexpected praise is the best way to help your employees feel appreciated and valued.
Say Please & Thank you
It doesn’t have to be “please” and “thank you” but being polite and respectful in your language goes a long way. Social niceties improve social capital and create a general feeling of respect between team members. Lead by example and say thank you when a team member presents their work to you or helps you problem solve. Reassuring people that they have been helpful makes them feel more secure in their actions and more willing to help out again in the future.
Treat Employees to a Meal
Unsure of how to show appreciation for the team? You can treat them to a meal! At Envol, we are big foodies so we love to find any reason to go out for lunch or dinner to celebrate a first day, a birthday, or even for no reason at all. Let your employees pick the restaurant, order food from a caterer, or find a store that delivers. A wise scholar once said, “The way to someone’s heart is through their stomach.”
Bring in Little Surprises
Take time getting to know your employees’ interests and present a small gift. Before anyone joins our team at Envol, we always have them complete a survey on TypeForm that asks for their favourite snacks, colours, holidays, and other fun things! This helps us understand each other’s interests and preferences, making it easy when we want to celebrate someone because we already know what they like. A simple gift and thoughtful gesture will easily light up your employee’s day.
Provide Opportunities for Growth
Everyone wants a chance to learn and grow. Supporting your employees in personal and professional growth helps them feel more appreciated as people and not as worker drones. Having budgets for training and development shows your team that you’re serious about their growth. At the end of the day, having a well-rounded team helps your organization grow into new areas.
These small tokens of appreciation spread throughout the year will help your employees feel valued, let them know that you care, and promote their happiness at work all year long. When you show appreciation to your employees, it humanizes them – Make Your Business Human, right? 😉
